About the EEID forum

Mission

The primary objective of the EEID forum is to create a welcoming environment that encourages the development and engagement of infectious disease scientists and practitioners through annual in-person meetings and an online space for seminars, discussions, and the sharing of resources. We aim to have fun while providing resources and places, online and in-person, to learn from others and advance the field.

We hope this website serves to connect students, researchers and practitioners from many locations.

History

In 2003, Pete Hudson and Ottar Bjørnstad decided it would be helpful to build an Ecology of Infectious Disease community where we could discuss science and support the younger people in the community with a training workshop. The first meeting was held on Pete Hudson’s birthday and brought in faculty from 5 major EEID groups and introduced the fun elements including a good hike and a party that encourage mixing and discussion. The meetings have been running annually, and they retain both the fun elements, and a community feel with a single joint session and good periods of far-reaching discussion about the science.

The National Science Foundation supported the annual training workshops for graduate students that focus on quantitative skills and programming.

Steering Committee

Current proposal: Someone from the organizing committees of the last 2 meeting and future 3 meetings (5 year rotation). President and Vice President. VP serves for 2 years before being President for 2 years (4 year term)
